Nagashima Gorosaku (長島五郎作)

Gorosaku NAGASHIMA (1852 - June 20, 1869) was a member of Shinsengumi (a group who guarded Kyoto during the end of Tokugawa Shogunate) from Abo Province. He was a member of Shuei Shinsengumi (the Shinsengumi unit to guard Toshizo HIJIKATA at the Hakodate war).

It is said that he joined Shinsengumi in 1867, and he served as a close retainer of Isami KONOD, Head of Shinsengumi.

After the Boshin War broke out, he served as a close retainer of Toshizo HIJIKATA and went to Ezo with him. He made a great achievement in the Battle of Futamataguchi, but was killed in the all-out assault of Hakodate. Died at 18.
